Del Bosque set to stay on as Spain boss

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is set to sign a two-year extension to remain in the post until 2012, according to RFEF president Angel Maria Villar.

Villar claims Del Bosque has agreed to prolong his stay at the helm but stressed the former Real Madrid boss has not put pen to paper on the new deal yet.

"I spoke with Del Bosque to renew his contract for two years and he expressed his agreement," Villar said at the Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai.

"We did not sign the renewal with Del Bosque, but his word is important.

"We have full confidence in our coach because of the results achieved so far and for the performances both in official competitions and friendlies."

Del Bosque took over the Spain reins after the team's triumphant Euro 2008 adventure and led the European champions to a perfect World Cup qualifying campaign with 10 wins out of 10.

Villar is hopeful the 58-year-old will guide Spain to World Cup glory for the first time in South Africa next summer but is not getting carried away with the prospect.

He added: "We must prove it on the pitch and not in our dreams, because there are giants of world football such as Brazil, Germany and Italy, who will have the same aspirations."
