Diego Maradona had emergency surgery on his face after he was ferociously bitten by one of his own dogs yesterday.
The Argentinian football legend, 49, was left with blood pouring from his face after the attack.
Maradona – whose Hand of God goal knocked England out of the 1986 World Cup – was rushed to a Buenos Aires clinic for reconstructive work to his top lip after reportedly being bitten three times.
He had been at home playing with the four-year-old Shar Pei, a breed of Chinese fighting dog, when it turned on him.
Julio Jiminez, the administrator of the Los Arcos clinic where Maradona was treated and had previously been for help with drug and alcohol problems, said last night: “He had a simple lesion and had surgery for about half an hour. There is no problem. He was walking and left with his girlfriend.”
Maradona is due to coach
Argentina in the World Cup finals this summer.
