Manchester United striker Rooney, who is confident of overcoming a toe injury to face Wales on Tuesday, admitted he has rediscovered his "hunger" after his disappointing World Cup last year.
"It felt good," he said. "It was a good performance from the whole team and we fully deserved three points.
"I'm enjoying my football, I've got a hunger about me and I want to prove myself again and hopefully I'm doing it.
"With Wales winning as well, it puts us in a great position. If we can win on Tuesday then I'm sure we will qualify.
"My toe is not a problem. I just landed on it in the second half. The physio has looked at it, said it's fine, no problem and I will take part in training tomorrow."
Rooney bagged his first goals since helping England beat Switzerland last September and also produced a man of the match performance.
"The first one was a header, John Terry is trying to claim it but he's nowhere near it," smiled Rooney. "I was in the right place, it was a good ball and thankfully I scored. The second one was a good counter-attack and it was easy tap-in."
England boss Capello praised Rooney and claimed his return to form in front of goal and his all-round display is vital to his team.
Capello said: "It's really important because he's a player with movement, he creates a lot of space for the other players, and he doesn't stay only up field.
"He comes back, his movement creating difficulties for the opponents. Afterwards, he always arrives in front of goal where you need him. This is important."
England now face Wales at Wembley on Tuesday after Gary Speed's team did Capello a huge favour by beating Montenegro to put the Three Lions in charge of Group G.
Capello added: "We need to beat Wales, we need to beat Wales. But I hope that, at Wembley, we will score goals. But it will be a really interesting game."
