Fabio Capello insists he has shaken hands and made peace with Rio Ferdinand.
And England boss Capello claimed he would not hesitate giving the armband back to Ferdinand if John Terry got injured.
Capello, who spoke with Ferdinand this week for the first time since handing the captaincy to Terry, said: "I spoke with him personally. I told him about my decision about the armband. He told me something and, at the end, we shook hands.
"The relationship is really, really good. It's personal what was said, but he accepted my decision. He wasn't happy but, after we spoke, he understood my decision. I understood what he told me.
"For this reason, between two men who need to stay and play together, it was really important to clarify every situation. I prefer it to remain personal, but Terry is captain and Rio is vice-captain.
"Rio likes to play with the national team. He's an important player and personality, for what he can do in the dressing room. I never thought that he wouldn't want to play with us. Not at all."
