Euro 2008: Betfred betting preview - Holland v France

Holland destroyed the much touted Italians 3-0 in their opening game, and at 6/4 they look good value to hand a repeat dose to the French tonight.

Marco Van Basten's side always looked in total control in their opening game and with a whole host of star players now seemingly gelling together as a team it would appear folly to oppose them.

Former Manchester United ace Ruud Van Nistelrooy looked as sharp as ever when getting on the scoresheet against Italy and makes plenty of appeal at 9/2 to grab the opener along with Arsenal's Robin Van Persie at 15/2.

"Holland did us a favour when trouncing the Italians, but this time it looks as if punters are out for revenge as they have latched onto the Dutch big time," said Betfred spokesman Dave Metcalf. "They are being backed at 6/4 as if defeat is out of the question whereas the French are friendless at 15/8.

"Ruud is proving extremely popular to score the first goal, whilst Arsenal fans have been punting Van Persie and linking him in scorecast double's which will have us running for cover if they come up!"

However the market attracting most interest, in what is a crucial game for France if they are to get through to the quarter finals, is the goals market where punters can choose whether there will be more or less than 2.5 in the match.

"With the Dutch getting three first time up and the French fighting for their lives there has been a mass of cash pouring on more than 2.5 goals in the match at 6/4," said Dave. "With the fire power that the Dutch have it could prove a cracking bet, and we could be saying bon voyage to the French boys."
