Exclusive: Paul Robinson set to join Blackburn today

Blackburn boss Paul Ince will sign Paul Robinson from Spurs in a £3.5million deal today - and let Brad Friedel join Aston Villa.

Ince's transfer negotiators finally made the breakthrough in the difficult Robinson talks as Tottenham sold their former England No.1 - and also wait to agree a fee for Blackburn's transfer-seeking David Bentley.

Robinson will head for Lancashire today to finalise personal terms and to have his medical, but there are no signs of late snags as Ince finally gets his man.

Robinson is desperate for a fresh start after being dropped at White Hart Lane and slipping out of the England picture.

Rovers felt Robinson was the ideal replacement for Friedel and held out for him despite trouble sorting out a price that suited them.

Robinson will make up for losing Friedel to Villa on a big-money three-year deal.

And Spurs still hope to land Bentley, but not at the £17m asking-price.
