Steve Bruce has made a £9million bid for Everton striker Andy Johnson - but faces a fight with Fulham for his signature.
Wigan boss Bruce was given the green light to close the deal yesterday as Everton chief David Moyes and chairman Bill Kenwright have opted to sell the hitman.
Only the ambitious Latics have made a cash offer although Fulham have emerged as serious contenders.
Johnson will be offered a £50,000-a-week contract but chairman Dave Whelan wants £30,000-a-week Antoine Sibierski and Henri Camara off the payroll before he brings him in.
