DAVID BECKHAM last night revealed how Rio Ferdinand's incredible kidnap wind-up led to him leaping from a moving car in the middle of Manchester's notorious Moss Side district.
England captain Beckham was caught up in an elaborate hoax played by Ferdinand as part of 'Rio's World Cup Wind-Ups' to be shown next week on ITV.
Beckham got into a car with a fake security officer but tried to get out when he realised all was not what it seemed.
"It was funny when I realised it was Rio behind it but I never thought I was being kidnapped, even though that's what the headlines said," said Beckham.
"I just thought I had a real pain-in-the-backside security man. He was telling me how he got arrested that morning and had to go and pick his documents up from the police station, which was on the other side of Manchester. Maybe on another day I would have said 'not a problem.' But I was rushing around trying to get the kids presents and I was getting annoyed."
Beckham went on: "We were going through Moss Side. We'd gone through some traffic lights when he should have stopped and I looked in the car behind and saw a camera crew. That happens every day in Spain. I wanted to get out and run. I saw a couple of black cabs in a petrol station and I thought 'here's my chance.'
"The car was still moving slightly and I thought 'sod it.' I jumped out and decided to run for a black cab. It was very funny when I realised the joke. Rio had done a few of the lads and he managed to get me.
"I always thought that I'd know when it was a prank, but not this time. And it's been a few years since I got a black cab."
