Fabio Capello oversaw the worst World Cup Finals campaign in England history.
FIFA’s official rankings for the 2010 tournament have revealed that England were placed in 13th position of the 32 competing nations, two places lower than their previous worst in Sweden in 1958.
The England boss is due back in London to meet the FA’s ruling Board on Thursday to discuss the failed campaign in South Africa.
But despite the humiliation, the Italian is not expected to take a look at the youngsters who could be the Three Lions’ possible future.
Capello has already been confirmed as manager for the next two years and the official FIFA confirmation of England’s South African debacle will be a huge embarrassment.
Club England head Sir Dave Richards drove the move to prevent Capello being sacked and receiving a £10million-plus pay-off and the Italian is also understood to be likely to hold a series of internal meetings within the FA headquarters at Wembley before heading back to his summer break.
And while Capello has yet to confirm his travel plans, he has not scheduled a trip to France to watch the under-19 side in the European Championship, which starts on Sunday.
FA director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking and coach Noel Blake won their battle with Premier League clubs to get players including the Spurs quartet of Steven Caulker, Andros Townsend, Dean Parrett and Ryan Mason released for the tournament, which begins with group games against France, Holland and Austria.
Yet while Capello said he is ready to look at blooding a new group of players to help rejuvenate his ageing squad, the Italian is unlikely to travel to Normandy to look at his potential future squad recruits.
Capello has yet to confirm his movements but his likely non-attendance has caused ripples with one FA insider pointing out: “If the manager is really interested in improving the side, it doesn’t seem too much to ask him to go and see if any of these youngsters might be good enough.”
