Sir Alex Ferguson attacked Emanuel Pogatetz for his horror tackle on Manchester United youngster Rodrigo Possebon.
The Middlesbrough skipper was shown a straight red for the twofooted challenge which left Brazilian teenager Possebon with a suspected broken leg and blood pouring from a gaping wound on his right shin.
Fergie said: "I've seen the challenge again on a television replay and I don't want to see it again.
"The boy has gone to hospital. It was a really bad one. For the kid to make his first start for us and get an injury like that was pretty horrendous." And Fergie also slammed Pogatetz for protesting his innocence rather than walking straight from the Old Trafford pitch.
He said: "It always seems to be a case of the opponent claiming he's innocent.
"Pogatetz should have walked right off the pitch. One of their bench jumped up, screaming that it wasn't a sending-off and that there was nothing wrong with the boy.
"But at least Gareth Southgate apologised. He understood the gravity of it and was very apologetic. But what a dreadful tackle. It really was terrible."
The game was stopped for almost 10 minutes while Possebon, 19, was treated.
He needed oxygen and his injured leg was put in a splint before he was carried off on a stretcher.
