Joe Cole: I'll write new chapter of Liverpool history

Joe Cole has vowed to help write his own chapter in the history of Liverpool.
The big-name signing from Chelsea walked into the plush players' lounge at Anfield yesterday and his eyes alighted on the iconic picture of Istanbul celebrations.
He then slowly scanned the room to take in various images of some of the greatest triumphs of this historic club, the beaming faces of Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler lined up proudly alongside the equally ecstatic views of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
For Cole, such images are not just a thing of the past. He wants to create his own famous pictures to adorn the Anfield walls, and his message to long suffering Reds fans was that he is in at the start of something special.
He said: "I left a mark at Chelsea, being part of great teams that won things, Player of the Year and stuff, and I am proud of that.
"Even last season, when I kept pushing to try and prove I was worth a start, I made a mark in the double team despite the injuries, and I'm proud of that too.
"Now I want to leave my mark at a massive club like this as well - I'm really excited about it.
"Someone once gave me the advice that when move, you should always make sure you are part of the club. It's a big challenge for me, but I will do that here - I will immerse myself in this club's history and hope we can repeat the success they have had.
"One thing I guarantee is that they club has a player who will give 100 per cent every day, not just on match days, and be part of it, and I am confident we will do much better than last year too.
"This whole club is built on success. You look at the pictures around this place and you can see the history, the tradition, what this club means - and you want to be part of that.
"I can feel the hunger and the desire here, and that's a great base to come from. The gaffer's experience and organisation are another positive and with all the quality players they have here, I am convinced we are in at the ground floor at the start of something here.
"As soon as I walked into this place I loved it and I really do believe we can do something special here."
And most of all, Cole wants to play. He has spent the past two years battling injuries and trying to prove he is worth a regular start, and he wants to put that behind him.
The midfielder decided that would not be possible at Chelsea, and instead, he believes that Liverpool offers the perfect springboard to return to his former glories.
After years of a difficult relationship with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, he has found a manager in Roy Hodgson who has complete faith in him.
It means he will play more games, and get more responsibility, and he believes that will have a positive effect on his career, not just for Liverpool, but for England.
"I had five great years at Chelsea and two blighted with injuries and the decision to leave was taken before I'd even thought of what club I'd go to," he explained.
"This is a fresh start. I just need match fitness but my body is strong. The important thing is getting the back to back games and just playing regularly.
"Roy made it very clear he wanted me as a player and what he wanted from me. All I need is time and patience because I've not even played 90 minutes since February.
"If I can play - and I will play games when I get fully fit - then other things follow on. Success, England, it all comes from the bread and butter of your club team, and what I have to do is put in some bloody hard work with Liverpool."
