Sven Goran Eriksson hopes to be named manager of Ivory Coast for the World Cup later this week.
Former England boss Eriksson, 62, was interviewed for the Nigeria job, but Swedish compatriot Lars Lagerback got the nod instead.
Eriksson is now very keen to take charge of the Ivory Coast for this summer’s tournament in South Africa.
He was in the crowd to see The Elephants’ 2-0 defeat to South Korea in a friendly at Loftus Road earlier this month.
Eriksson, whose last stint in management was at the helm of Mexico, left his position as director of football at Notts County last month.
Ivory Coast sacked Vahid Halilhodzic after a disappointing African Nations Cup campaign.
Eriksson is hopeful of becoming his successor on a short-term deal, but former Japan boss Philippe Troussier could get the nod instead because he speaks French.
Ivory Coast face Brazil, Portugal and North Korea in their World Cup group.
Eriksson will only commit to a short-term job this summer as he would love to manage Liverpool if Rafa Benitez leaves Anfield.
