Fulham striker Bobby Zamora’s broken right leg will take five months to heal – two more than first thought.
He had surgery on Sunday which uncovered ankle ligament damage in addition to the fracture.
The 29-year-old must wait until February at the earliest for his return.
Fulham boss Mark Hughes said: “Bobby will now be in bed with his leg elevated for two weeks.
“The operation showed ligament damage so we’re probably now looking at five months.
“We want to help Bobby get back quickly and there are no concerns over his ability to get back to the level he was before he was injured.”
Zamora was injured in a challenge by Karl Henry midway through the first half of Saturday’s 2-1 win against Wolves at Craven Cottage.
He was given oxygen before being taken to hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture four centimetres above his right ankle.
