Gael Clichy commits long-term future to Arsenal

Arsenal have announced that French full-back Gael Clichy has signed a new "long-term" contract.

The club have declined to reveal exact details of the new contract's length, but the timing of the deal is significant, as both Roma and Juventus have publicly declared an interest in the left-back.

Clichy joined Arsenal from Cannes in 2003, and has established himself as the permanent replacement for Ashley Cole.

Last season the Frenchman made more appearances for Arsenal than any other player, and was named in the Professional Footballers' Association team of the year at the end of last season.
