Gary Megson has slapped a whopping £20million price tag on Bolton defender Gary Cahill in an attempt to scare off Arsenal.
And Megson is ready to offer Cahill a bumper new contract as Arsene Wenger prepares a summer bid.
Wenger is desperate to revamp his team to challenge for the Premier League title and has identified Cahill, 23, as a top target for next season.
But Megson said: "Gary is under contract and we are currently in the process of negotiating a new, improved deal for him. He's the best young centre-half in the country by an absolute street and I've been delighted with him again this year.
"I want to build the team around him for the next few seasons.
"I can understand why the big clubs are interested in Gary, but it's going to take an offer over and above what we received for Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea." Cahill was signed by Megson for £5m from Aston Villa and Fabio Capello has considered him for a call-up to the England senior squad..
