Gary Megson insists Kevin Davies will bounce back from his England snub by firing Bolton to Premier League safety.
Striker Davies could rightly have expected to be called up for England duty this week after being announced in Fabio Capello's preliminary squad.
But he was then overlooked when Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole and Darren Bent all picked up injuries ahead of the win over the Ukraine. Yet Bolton boss Bolton v Middlesbrough, today KO 3pm
Megson insisted: "Kevin is all right. He is not despondent. He is a good, sensible lad. He will realise he has to keep plugging away.
"He is very close to it but has just not managed to get selected yet. I was disappointed for him, as it would have been nice to see him there.
"But there is nothing he can do but keep doing what he is doing and hope the opportunity comes." Davies will be looking to prove his point against Middlesbrough today and help pull Bolton clear of the drop zone.
