Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon suffered a fractured arm in the defeat at Tottenham and faces a spell on the sidelines.
He will have to withdraw from Scotland's squad for next Saturday's friendly against Wales.
Club medical staff will assess the severity of the injury in the coming days before determining how many matches he is likely to miss.
The Black Cats revealed Gordon's blow on their official website, explaining he suffered the fracture in a collision with Jermaine Defoe during Tottenham's 2-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Gordon, 26, had to be replaced by Marton Fulop midway through the second half of Saturday's match.
"Craig's in a lot of pain," said Sunderland manager Steve Bruce.
