Hannover have signed Portuguese midfielder Carlitos from Swiss champions Basle on a two-year contract.
The 27-year-old, born Carlos Alberto Alves Garcia, has joined the Bundesliga side for an undisclosed fee and is the first of the "two or three new signings" chairman Martin Kind had promised before Saturday night's 2-1 defeat to Valencia.
"We have been observing him for a while," explained Hannover's director of sport Jorg Schmadtke.
"He can play with both feet and on both the left or the right wing and he has also already played in the centre of the midfield.
"Carlitos will help us with his eye for goal and his versatility. This transfer fits completely within our financial structure."
The player has scored 11 goals in 76 appearances for Basle over the last three seasons and is now looking forward to his new challenge in Germany.
"I am looking forward to playing for Hannover in the Bundesliga and I think I can help this team," he said.
Carlitos will link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training on Tuesday.
