Heurelho Gomes vows to become Tottenham number one

Heurelho Gomes has promised to establish himself as Tottenham’s number one after making a speedy recovery from injury.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp feared Brazilian Gomes was going to be out for up to three months with a groin injury.
But Gomes is hoping to be back to face Manchester United on Saturday week and wants to reclaim his place from Carlo Cudicini.
Gomes was also relieved at Tottenham not signing another keeper in the transfer window as Redknapp did not pull off a deal for Portsmouth’s David James.
Ex-PSV Eindhoven keeper Gomes is determined to justify Redknapp’s faith and enjoy a good season.
Gomes said: “The injury has improved very quickly and physically I am now close to being match fit and ready for the next game.
“I’m very happy that the club have stuck with me, the manager has shown faith in me and that is so important to me.
“They could have signed a new keeper but I want to show I can be the first choice and keep improving.”
