Hibernian manager John Hughes has praised Kevin Thomson's winning mentality after the Rangers midfielder wrote off the Edinburgh club's chances of maintaining their challenge to the Old Firm.
The former Hibs captain declared he would be surprised if Celtic and Rangers were not 20-25 points ahead of the third-placed team at the end of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season. Hibs had been level with Rangers before dropping points when they drew 1-1 at Kilmarnock on Saturday, but Hughes has no problem with Thomson's comments.
"To be honest, when I heard what he said, I thought 'good on you' because it shows you that he has got self-belief, and it tells you how much he trusts in his team-mates," Hughes told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"Kevin is a great guy, he is a friend and fantastic footballer. If that is his belief, then there's nothing wrong with that.
"It just shows how strong a mentality he has and to be honest with you, that kind of attitude is what wins you things in football."
