Joleon Lescott has told David Moyes he wants to play in his favourite position at centre-half for Everton.
Lescott has been used as a left-back but feels he needs to play at the heart of the defence if he is going to push claims with England.
"I'd never played left-back before I came here," he said.
"I have played there for England and Everton but I'd prefer to play centre-half to be honest. I made my debut for England at centre-half and hopefully I can continue there for Everton.
"I've spoken to the manager a few times but this season it has been more about the team. Hopefully next season we can sort that out.
"I want to play centre-half but it's more important right now for me to play at left-back."
