Landon Donovan has told Evertonians he is better than he was two years ago.
Donovan has returned to Everton on a two-month loan deal from LA Galaxy and had his first training session at Finch Farm this morning with the Blues.
Although he turns 30 in March, the USA midfielder insists he has improved since his last spell with the club at the beginning of 2010 when he scored twice in seven league starts.
"I'm more experienced and a better player than I was two years ago," he said. "Before you get to the end of your career, mentally you get better and better.
"I feel I have grown a lot over the last two years. I've had a World Cup and I feel these may be the best few years of my career.
"It's got to be back. I got in last night and I almost feel like a kid coming here I'm so excited.
"I got to see a few old faces this morning. Unfortunately, the first one was Phil Neville's! It's good to be back and to see everyone."
Donovan, who hopes to play his first game back against Bolton on Wednesday, insists he won't staying beyond his two-month loan spell and says he is committed to honouring the remaining two seasons of his contract with Galaxy.
"I love playing in LA," he said. "I love living in LA. Galaxy have been unbelievably supportive of me and a lot of teams would not have let me do this after I've just had a long season.
"So I am loyal to them, no question. But I'm also going to enjoy these few months here, no question.
"I had two weeks at the end of the season where I did nothing, but in the last eight to 10 days, I've started running and playing a little bit.
"In training today, I didn't feel 100 per cent, but I'm not far off and I can't wait to play."
