Lee Hughes turned down a summer move to the Championship – but believes he’ll still finish his career there next year.
The 34-year-old striker who smashed 30 goals in Notts County’s promotion campaign last year has signed a fresh two-year contract at Meadow Lane.
And he reckons new boss Craig Short could help make the club the surprise package among the big boys in League One.
Hughes said: “I had offers including one from a very good Championship club, but I wanted to stay. I like the city and the fans have been superb.
“There is no reason to leave because I’m enjoying my football. I’ve come to the stage in my career where that is so important.
“We’re going into League One as champions and will be aiming for the play-offs. We’re not in there to make up the numbers.”
