Leeds say they are prepared to risk losing star striker Jermaine Beckford on a free next summer after taking him off the transfer list.
Boss Simon Grayon put Beckford up for sale at the end of last season when he refused their offer of a new deal. But now Grayson hopes to persuade Beckford to stay by winning promotion back to the Championship.
"We'll risk him leaving for free next year," he said. "We're playing the game that he will score goals to get us promoted and then will sign a new deal with us."
