Luis Suarez will return on Tuesday night for what could be his last Premier League appearance for Liverpool before his eight-game ban begins.
Suarez is available following his one-match suspension for his gesture at Fulham fans last month and will start against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Kenny Dalglish is determined to use Suarez as much as he can while the club decide if they will appeal the striker’s lengthy ban after he was found gulity of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
Liverpool have until January 13 to make their decision, which is the day before their next league game against Stoke at Anfield.
The angry Reds feel the Uruguayan is being victimised by the FA, but have been warned they will risk an even longer ban if they appeal.
They were remaining tightlipped on Monday and do not plan to make any further comment until they and their lawyers have dissected the 115-page report into Suarez’s case.
Dalglish’s problem is finding a way to fit Suarez into his attack alongside Craig Bellamy after the Welshman scored twice in Friday’s win over Newcastle.
“I’ve got a selection poser every time I pick the team, but it’s a very pleasant one,” said the Liverpool manager.
Captain Steven Gerrard, a goalscorer against Newcastle, has made two substitute appearances totalling 52 minutes after two months out with an ankle infection and could be in contention to start.
Provisional squad: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Downing, Gerrard, Adam, Spearing, Bellamy, Suarez, Doni, Kelly, Carragher, Shelvey, Rodriguez, Carroll, Kuyt.
