Steven Gerrard reckons England team-mate Joe Cole is as good as Lionel Messi and Ronaldo.... in training.
The Liverpool midfielder says Cole, who is vying to make the cut when Fabio Capello reduces his 30 man squad to 23, can match anyone for entertainment and skills.
Cole, 28, has only netted twice for Chelsea this season after his double for England against Andorra, and he has to impress during the national training camp in Austria this week to stay in the frame for South Africa.
Gerrard told Match of the Day magazine: "Joe Cole does some amazing stuff in training. He's as good as Messi or Ronaldo on the ball, and he'll give any player a run for their money when it comes to tricks."
Gerrard has given an insight into the atmosphere in the England camp and said of potential World Cup coach Beckham: "It's such a shame he's injured."
He added: "Most of the lads will watch movies on the plane to South Africa, but Jermain Defoe likes playing on his PSP - he loves Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf. If you make a bad shot, he lets the whole plane know.
"We all travel together so there's no chance of anyone missing the flight. But you'll find Wrighty and Defoe running for the plane - they'll be clothes shopping in the airport."
