Liverpool chiefs have sounded out Johan Cruyff as a potential successor to Damien Comolli but MirrorFootball understands that the Dutch legend is unlikely to join the Anfield club.
Rumours swept the internet on Friday that a deal between Fenway Sports Group and Cruyff had been 'agreed in principle'. And while the 64 year-old Dutchman has been contacted by an intermediary, a senior club source told MirrorFootball that a deal will not happen.
Director of Football Comolli left Liverpool by mutual consent yesterday , the first victim of a disappointing season in which almost all of the club's big summer signings failed to shine .
Cruyff enjoyed an illustrious playing career during which he won eight Eredivisies and three consecutive European Cups with Ajax, and further titles with both Barcelona and Feyenoord.
He went on to manage both Ajax and Barcelona, landing four La Liga titles and a further European Cup medal while at the Nou Camp.
Cruyff currently divides his time between managing the Catalonian national team and sitting on the Supervisory Board of Ajax.
