Steven Gerrard has taken Liverpool and England colleague Andy Carroll under his wing.

The £35million record signing from Newcastle has struggled for form and fitness this season with manager Kenny Dalglish rarely handing him a starting place.

With Wayne Rooney suspended for the first three games of Euro 2012, Carroll needs more matches to force his way into Fabio Capello’s team.
