Kenny Dalglish hailed Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing for shining in the face of adversity at Villa Park.
The Reds continued their impressive form with goals from Craig Bellamy and Martin Skrtel.
And it would have been more comprehensive had the Uruguayan not hit the woodwork twice.
“Suarez has been sat in a hotel room for three days and only trained Tuesday and Friday,” said Dalglish. “I think it speaks volumes for the man.” Suarez is on tenterhooks as he waits to hear his fate later this week from the FA after the hearing into charges of alleged racism against Patrice Evra.
Dalglish added: “I would love to comment further but am afraid to prejudice anything.
“We have been respectful all the way through and don’t want to be accused of losing that respect.”
Downing endured a hostile reception on his return to Villa Park after quitting in the summer.
His corner set-up Bellamy’s opener and the winger impressed despite a lot of flak from home fans.
Dalglish added: “I think it is sad, they would have been better giving their support to their own players.
It wasn’t going to upset Stewart. He was excellent so obviously it worked!”
Dalglish also praised goal-scorer Bellamy and Jonjo Shelvey, who has been recalled from a loan at Blackpool.
He added: “He did really well. He settled in very quickly.”
