Liverpool fear Lucas could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The Brazilian midfielder was injured during Liverpool’s Carling Cup win over Chelsea on Tuesday and the Reds are deeply concerned he may have damaged his cruciate ligaments.
He had a scan on Wednesday. The club are refusing to comment publicly until they know the results.
Lucas, 24, is praying it is not as severe as the club believe it could be, and has his fingers crossed as he waits for the scan results.
He tweeted: “I will have the scan to see how bad my injury is. Just send positive energy and I hope it won’t be too bad.”
Manager Kenny Dalglish refused to speculate on the seriousness of Lucas’ injury after seeing him carried off on a stretcher at Stamford Bridge following a clash with Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand.
The Liverpool boss will be gutted if his midfield anchorman is ruled out for six months.
Lucas has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season and has featured in all 12 of their Premier League games.
Dalglish has also found the Samba star indispensable in the Carling Cup and he has played in three of the Reds’ four ties during their run to the semi-finals.
Liverpool have recalled Jonjo Shelvey from his loan at Blackpool to potentially cover Lucas’ injury.
