Liverpool could be set for a £100million cash boost.
A group of billionaire New Yorkers are lining up a deal to invest the huge sum into the Reds, diluting the ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
The New York-based private equity firm - the Rhone Group - have begun due diligence with a view to buying around a 40 per cent stake in the club.
The deal would see controlling interest pass to billionaire financiers Robert Agostinelli and Steven Langman. It would repay a huge chunk of the club's Royal Bank of Scotland debt and enable work to begin on the building of a new £350m stadium.
Anfield managing director Christian Purslow has been scouring the globe to seek new investment in the club and, although there is also interest from India, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the Rhone Group are viewed as the best bet to conclude a deal.
