Luke Young is holding out for a move to Fulham after surprisingly rejecting Liverpool.
Anfield boss Roy Hodgson agreed a £2.5million fee with Villa for the versatile defender.
But despite being unhappy at Villa Park, full-back Young has opted not to move to Liverpool where he would be a squad player.
Young,31, instead has flown out with Villa to Portugal where they will compete in the Guadiana Cup this weekend.
Young was not prepared to take a wage reduction to go to Anfield without a pay-off from Villa, where he earns over £30,000-a-week.
The Londoner, who was a trainee at Spurs, now wants to go to Craven Cottage and hopes new boss Mark Hughes will ratify his arrival.
But his decision to stay at Villa is a blow to manager Martin O'Neill who needs to raise funds for new signings.
