Carlo Ancelotti will put his emotions to one side on his first visit to Anfield today as Chelsea aim to secure Premier League title glory.
It is the Kop anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone that will make the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
Ancelotti said: “I have never been to Anfield either as a player, a coach or a fan – it’s the first time there for me. I’m excited about this because everyone speaks about the stadium and the atmosphere.
“I’m happy to be there on Sunday. I hear the fans sing You’ll Never Walk Alone and every time it’s emotional – even for people who aren’t Liverpool fans.
“I always said there is a different atmosphere in England and for someone who loves football like me the atmosphere is very important.”
The Italian was in the Roma squad who lost to the Reds on penalties in the 1984 European Cup Final and went through the same experience in the Champions League Final in 2005 after Rafa Benitez’ side came back from 3-0 down against his AC Milan side.
Ancelotti got revenge as Milan beat Liverpool 2-1 in the 2007 final, and now he faces a fourth career-defining clash against the Reds.
