Mainz made it three wins from three Bundesliga matches with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over local rivals Kaiserslautern.
Having trailed to Srdjan Lakic's first-half strike, the hosts rallied from a poor first half and, after equalising through Niko Bungert in the 71st minute, substitute Andre Schurrle produced a winner to maintain his side's 100% record.
Taner Yalcin's first senior goal earned Cologne all three points in a 1-0 win at home to St Pauli.
The goal came in the 17th minute from the first decent chance either team had enjoyed.
Lukas Podolski smacked a thunderbolt of a shot from 30 yards that came back off the crossbar, and Yalcin was there for an easy finish into the unguarded net.
