Yaya Toure dedicated his winning goal to brother Kolo – and vowed to honour him by lifting the FA Cup.
Kolo is currently banned after a positive sample in a random drugs test following the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in February.
The City defender is yet to learn his long-term fate, but man-of-the-match Yaya said his plight was already driving him to glory.
“It is very hard for him and very hard for me,” said Yaya. “I came to Manchester City to play with him and win something. I’ve won trophies with other clubs but I’ve always wanted to win something playing alongside him. He’s still in some trouble, but he’s a strong guy.
“I’m sad for him so this win was for him, the fans and the club. It’s going to be disappointing that he will be denied the chance to play in the final, but we want to win for Kolo and for the fans.”
It emerged yesterday that Yaya was further inspired up by a half-time bust-up in the City dressing room.
Midfielder Nigel de Jong confirmed the incident, while keeper Joe Hart revealed Yaya was directly involved.
De Jong said: “I won’t go into details but obviously everybody wants to win and sometimes you come face-to-face with each other.”
