Unknown striker Bebe's notorious £7.4million move to Manchester United is being investigated by Portuguese anti-corruption police, according to reports.
There are suspicions that almost half of the fee remains unaccounted for, one story says.
Bebe joined United from Portugal's Vitoria Guimares - who themselves had only signed him from a second division club weeks earlier - in August 2010.
Reds boss Alex Ferguson later admitted he'd never seen the youngster play in person before doing the deal.
The player, now 21, made little impression at Old Trafford and is currently on a long-term loan with Turkish side Besiktas.
There is no suggestion that United did anything wrong, the reports continue, pointing out that the club have previously gone on record as stating none of the fee went directly to an agent.
