Wes Brown is sweating on the results of a X-ray amid fears that his World Cup dream is over because he has broken his foot.
The Manchester United and England defender was forced off injured at half-time against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.
Brown had a scan yesterday on his left foot and doctors fear he has broken his fifth metatarsal.
A broken bone in his foot could rule him out for three months and end his dream of going to South Africa.
Brown was very much in Fabio Capello's thoughts and the England boss was attracted by his versatility.
Sir Alex Ferguson hopes Brown has not suffered a break and he does not want to lose him with John O'Shea already in the treatment room.
United were refusing to comment on the results of Brown's scan and would only say that Ferguson would give an update tomorrow at his Champions League press conference before the AC Milan game.
