Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester City for deciding to lay a wreath at the memorial site of the Munich air disaster.
Man City to pay their respects in Munich
Twenty-three people - including eight Manchester United players and former City goalkeeper Frank Swift - died when the team's plane crashed on take-off in February 1958.
Although sections of City fans have taunted their United counterparts with sickening Munich chants, Ferguson welcomed the gesture by United's neighbouring club to honour the memory of those who died.
"I think it's refreshing," said Ferguson. "We appreciate that from Manchester City and, of course, one of their own players was killed in the crash.
"I think it's a good sign that the game is not as bad as we sometimes think.
"There's an element of supporters who contribute in a different way, which is not nice.
"But we appreciate what Manchester City are doing, if that's the case. Well done."
City are in Munich for tonight's Champions League meeting with Bayern and will make the gesture at the memorial stone in the Manchesterplatz.
