Federico Macheda says he is determined to make an impact with Manchester United this season.
The Italian striker spent much of last season injured following his stunning arrival towards the end of the previous campaign when his last-minute winner against Aston Villa helped inspire United to a third straight title.
“I’m very happy I scored two goals,” said Macheda, whose first against the MLS All-Stars came after just 22 seconds. “I’m a striker and that’s what you need. Last season I had many injuries and was out for almost five months, so I couldn’t really show my strengths.
“But this season I hope to have more chances to show what I can do. I do my part and I try to do well in every game. I am ready to play and I hope the manager will pick me for many games. I think this year could be the one for me, I think so because I’m trying to get fit so I can show what I’m capable of doing.
“I just want to stay and grow as a player here. Even if I only play a bit, I will be playing alongside big players and against big teams, so I’m definitely staying here. I’m not going out on loan.”
