Wayne Rooney returned to the starting line-up for Manchester United as they hosted Rangers in tonight's Champions League Group C opener at Old Trafford.
Rooney was left out of the match day squad for Saturday's 3-3 draw at Everton in the Barclays Premier League just days after allegations about his private life.
Rio Ferdinand - wearing the captain's armband tonight - was also back in the side after recovering from injury as Sir Alex Ferguson made 10 changes from the weekend, with Darren Fletcher the only player to retain his place.
Kirk Broadfoot started for Rangers after being passed fit and Steven Whittaker also recovered from injury to make the team, while Kenny Miller was given the lone striker role for the Scottish champions.
