Mick McCarthy had reason to believe that the bad luck that has dogged Wolves’s season had finally turned.
Wanderers clinched a vital 2-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor to help them open a three point gap on the Lancastirans. And manager McCarthy admitted: “I kept telling the players that our luck would turn – and it has.
“I knew that if we kept playing well then we would start getting what we deserved.”
Burnley boss Brian Laws refused to panic about his team’s plight in the drop zone.He said: “We still have eight games left and it only takes one win to get ourselves back in with a chance.
“This was a body blow, but we can’t let the disappointment destroy the rest of the season.
“I’ve heard Mick moan about his luck a few times this season, but he can’t have that complaint tonight because I didn’t think we deserved to lose.” Bolton enjoyed a 4-0 derby win over neighbours Wigan. Days after beating Liverpool at the DW Stadium, the Latics were swept away.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said: “This was a huge shock but we paid the price for our win over Liverpool last Monday. We looked mentally drained.”
