Nani believes the secret of his Manchester United success is that fans no longer look on him as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese winger admits he fuelled the expectations of supporters by claiming he was the man to fill Ronaldo’s boots following his £80m departure from United to Real Madrid in the summer.
Nani’s future looked uncertain when he started the season poorly, but he said: “I think the fans are now starting to see I can be important to this team.
“When Ronaldo left they thought I would step in to take his place but we are talking about the best player in the world.
“No one can replace Ronaldo. There was a lot of pressure and when I injured my shoulder early in the season it was clear my form was not the best.
“Since I have come back into the team I am showing that when my form is good I can keep my place.”
