Neil Harris has challenged Millwall to “bounce back” against Ipswich tonight after getting humiliated at home by Watford.
The Lions record scorer admitted the 6-1 savaging on Saturday was “really, really poor”. Harris and Darren Ward are the only survivors of the Millwall team which faced Roy Keane in the 2004 FA Cup final.
But the 33-year-old said: “I don’t think it matters who the opposition is. It is a huge opportunity to put the defeat behind us, learn from it as individuals and as a team, and try and get back on track with performances we expect and the standard we have set.
“The Watford defeat was very disappointing. Really, really poor. We didn’t get anywhere near the standards we have set over the last three years under Kenny Jackett and certainly nowhere the standards we have set ourselves in the first six games of the season. We let a lot of people down, including ourselves. We came up against a very well organised, strong, physical Watford team and we weren’t good enough. But we have got an opportunity to bounce back in the Carling Cup.”
The FA yesterday contacted Millwall after a fan invaded the pitch and chased Watford defender Lloyd Doyley.
An FA spokesman said: “We have asked the club for their observations.”
