Jamie Carragher has boosted Roy Hodgson by claiming the new Liverpool boss has given the club "a lift".
Morale in the dressing room fell under Rafa Benitez last season and Carragher welcomed the appointment of the former Inter Milan boss.
Carra's support for Hodgson is crucial as the new Reds manager tries to persuade Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres to stay.
One of Hodgson's first acts as manager was to meet Carragher and Gerrard and the Reds vice-captain says he is excited about teaming up with him.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of working with Roy Hodgson," he said.
"He's got a great reputation and is one of the most experienced managers in the world.
"After this period of uncertainty, his appointment has given us all a lift."
