Patrick Vieira claims Olympic legend Carl Lewis has shown him how he can prolong his career at the top.
Vieira and his Manchester City team-mates met Lewis during their US tour and the Frenchman was very impressed by the athletics great.
Lewis won the last of his nine gold medals aged 35 at the Atlanta Games in 1996 and the Vieira found the chat very useful.
Vieira, 34, is in the final year of his City deal and says Lewis gave him valuable advice on how to carry on at the top level.
"I think to meet him and have a chat with him was fantastic," he said. "It was a dream come true. He can explain how you can stay at the top for a long time.
"He told us how you can prepare yourself properly for a big game and that if you train well, you play well.
"Sometimes as a player you take things a little bit lightly, but he has shown us that to be a winner and stay at the top for a long time, the only way is to work and work hard."
