Owls turn down Johnson offer

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has confirmed the club have turned down "a derisory offer" from Nottingham Forest for winger Jermaine Johnson.

The Owls have rejected a reported offer of £350,000 from Forest for the 30-year-old Jamaica international, who Wednesday signed from Bradford for £500,000 in 2007.

Asked if Forest had made the bid, Irvine told the club's official website: "That's right and if anybody thinks that suddenly there's a sale on at Sheffield Wednesday then they'll get a bit of a surprise because I'm assured that that's certainly not the case."

He added: "We will not take derisory offers for anybody. The club were strong with regard to Lee (Grant). They turned down four offers before agreeing."

Wednesday agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £1million, with Burnley for goalkeeper Grant on Sunday and the 27-year-old is discussing terms.

Irvine added: "I understand there was an issue that would suggest we needed to get some money in and I'm told that's not a massive problem, but I've known from day one there was a certain threat if people came up with certain offers for our players. It's one of those situations where every club in the country is struggling like that."
