Paul Mariner has moved a step closer to returning to old club Plymouth as technical director after being given permission by MLS side New England Revolution to discuss personal terms.
Former England striker Mariner, 56, wants to quit his role with the American side as No2 to former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol to return to Home Park.
Revolution vice president Mike Burns said: “’Plymouth have asked permission to speak to Paul from our organisation and we've granted that.
“They have spoken to him, they have had conversations but nothing is final.”
