Struggling Portsmouth are leading a three-way chase to sign Benfica defender Miguel Vitor in January.
Birmingham and Ipswich have also expressed an interest as the Portuguese side look to loan out the 20-year-old to gain first team experience.
Portsmouth are currently under a transfer embargo as the Premier League took action because the club had missed payments of over £2m to Arsenal and Chelsea for Lassana Diarra and Glen Johnson.
Pompey also owe big money to agents but insist they will pay their debts - despite doubts over their ownership - to enable boss Paul Hart to sign players again by January.
