Portsmouth look to complete £3m deal for Nicky Shorey

Harry Redknapp has prepared the way for England defender Nicky Shorey to join Portsmouth for £3million.

Pompey boss Redknapp will move for twicecapped Shorey for whom Reading last season rejected a £4m offer from West Ham.

The 27-year-old has one year left on his contract and the fee is complicated by the involvement of former club Leyton Orient, who will get a third of the profit after selling him for £25,000 seven years ago.

Reading have lined up Luton midfielder David Bell as a £400,000 replacement for James Harper, who is set to move to Middlesbrough for £3.5m.
