Portsmouth are ready to swoop for Tottenham's Mexican misfit Giovani Dos Santos as their new owners prepare to pay for three top signings.
Pompey will try to buy the 20-year-old Spurs starlet as Avram Grant starts work on finding talent to help them beat the drop.
The former Chelsea chief has been charged with identifying the players he wants and former Barcelona kid Dos Santos tops the list - and he is available.
Dos Santos was wanted by Portsmouth's previous regime last summer but they did not have the funds - now Ali Al-Faraj's group have pledged cash for new faces.
The Mexican is currently injured after picking up a knock in a Carling Cup tie but he will be moved out in the next window - with Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna also keen.
However Pompey's new regime have strong links qwith the Dos Santos camp - and hope to agree a price that will be within their budget.
Portsmouth will have to buy Dos Santos as they already have Jamie O'Hara on loan and are not allowed two players from the one club on that basis.
One definite option is to include David James in a swap, but Pompey are presently planning to sign Dos Santos outright and in a straight-cash deal.
Dos Santos came to Spurs in a blaze of glory but Harry Redknapp has not been a fan of his style and has too many similar players in his squad. He could trade him to bring in more cash to strengthen other areas.
